The Letterbox Trilogy
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
What better way to round out Season of the Trilogy than going with some 1980s horror as we tackle The Letterbox Trilogy: Videodrome, The Video Dead and Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
This week's episode finds us delving into the relationship between television and the viewer and the downsides of growing too attached on that medium.
One of these movies attacks that question really well, one of them does not at all, and one of them is a lot better than you might think.
Strap in for a lot of 80s grab-assing on the old boob tube.

We are back with the first of our constructed trilogies, The Red Flower Trilogy.
This trilogy consists of: Resolution (2012), Synchronic (2019), & The Endless (2017).
This three movie series from directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead is centered on the weird goings on in the boonies of San Diego's East County region and whatever is controlling them.
We then take a pitstop in New Orleans for the second movie to explore the consequences of an over-powered synthetic drug.
Join us as we dive into all aspects of this directing duo's unique takes on the horror genre.
Also, in case it isn't obvious, SPOILERS ABOUND!

It's October baby! You know what that means...Not PSLs, you basic-ass MFer!
It's time for The Occasionalists' monthlong celebration of all things spooky, The Fright Fest! We discuss why we changed the name of our annual festival of all things horror and discuss this year's format: The Trilogy!
You get some history on the trilogy as a story structure, what makes it so lucrative for movie studios and how the intricate cinematic universes of today can thank the horror movie franchises of the 1980s for making them so much damn money.
Plus we unveil how we are going to attack the trilogy in the subsequent episodes this month.
Let's get to it!

Part two of our Lindelof Deep Dive is here!
In this one, we wrap up our Lost and Lost Offspring discussion and we, per usual, try our hand at some revisionist entertainment history and pick out some projects we think would benefit from the Lindelof treatment.
We also make a pitch for our own future Lindelof projects.
Better listen to this one now! Tick tock...

Damon Lindelof Deep Dive: Part One
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
Wednesday Sep 15, 2021
We are back with the first part of a mega episode chronicling one of tv's preeminent voices, Damon Lindelof.
The first part covers the start of his career: from humble beginnings on MTV, to police procedurals and finally helming the last great network tv drama and one of the last true entertainment phenomenons, Lost.
We debate the deeper meanings of Lost, character types and even dig into particular episodes that upon reflection can only be described as, Lindelofian.
Occasionalists Flight 815 is boarding now, you coming?

We are dusting off the shoulder pads, cleats and of course, our balls, to get ready for our first sports episode of the new season. What are we talking about this time?
College football. The Browns. Note Dame. Cornfields. 40 year old football players. Roller derby. 7-footers who can shoot. A very particular disgusting LA Dodgers Pitcher. Guarding things.
It's all here folks! We like sports!
